The gut-associated lymphoid tissue (GALT) is a remarkable and intricate component of the immune system, strategically located in the mucosal lining of the gastrointestinal tract. This specialized tissue plays a pivotal role in maintaining immune homeostasis, defending against pathogens, and tolerating the vast array of commensal microorganisms residing in the gut. This abstract provides an overview of the GALT, delving into its organization, functions, and significance in human health. GALT comprises a network of lymphoid structures, including Peyer’s patches, mesenteric lymph nodes, and isolated lymphoid follicles, all strategically positioned to detect, respond to, and regulate immune reactions within the gut.
