Keeping persons with dementia in the community and its relevance in today Singapore What?s it all about?

Satyaprakash Tiwari

The Organisation is an established senior services provider, having a range of residential and community care options. Recent additions have
included caregiver training programmes with a vision to have ‘a continuum of care that is supported at all points’. The primary objective of the
various services is to make institutionalisation the last option for care of seniors, in line with the government policy of keeping seniors active and
in the community for the most prolonged period possible. This has twin benefits of lower cost of caring as well as ensuring that the senior gets the
most optimum quality of life while ensuring judicious use of resources. It also allows for a fair distribution of scarce manpower in caring for only
severe cases in residential care while less specialised carers can cover care in the community with adequate supervision.
The Organisation is also on an active mission to reach out, study technology and actively use the same in the care of seniors. A high
priority is placed on the safety and care being in line with the highest level of functioning of the individual. Recent and ongoing advancements in
pharmacology, care mechanisms and medical healthcare can translate to new and better quality of life for both the senior as well as the caregivers.
The home has also won an award in 2019 for quality improvement project.
With the support of extended services, The Organisation has the strength to handle related issues of counselling, food rations, family bonding
as well as legal support to understand and handle mental capacity and advanced care matters. Thus the whole spectrum of care and support has
been set up to serve the senior and his/her caregivers both in the community as well as in residential care. Any transitions between different levels
of care as well as changes in financial and social conditions can also be taken care of the least painless way.
